Mountain Movers is a new series on the National Geographic Channel that follows Chris “Gunny” Gunnarson and the Snow Park Technologies (SPT) team as they design and build some of the most impressive winter sports projects across the nation. Whether creating a remote private training facility for a high profile athlete, building the perfect halfpipe for the ESPN Winter X Games, or constructing a terrain park at a major winter resort, these larger-than-life snow-sculptors battle the elements to amp up the thrill of snow sports everywhere. Mountain Movers gives a behind-the-scenes look into the world’s biggest, toughest, and most innovative projects on snow. Mountain Movers Show Teaser

The X Games is equivalent to the Super Bowl for Gunny and the SPT crew. One hundred and fifty of the world’s best snow sports athletes compete in the event, which is broadcast live around the world. This year, Tyrone was in charge of building one of the biggest features that SPT has ever been tasked with creating: the Snowboard Street wallride. Chris leads the entire SPT crew in Aspen and assigns Kurt Eppler to take on the snowmobile course, which requires building two courses within the same location. Frank is in his element working on the pipe, and Aaron starts construction of Snowboard Street with Tyrone. But, Corley has been relegated to helping out everyone when needed. The challenges ensue, including bad weather and equipment breakdowns, as well as a ticking clock from the moment they begin fabrication until the last athlete crosses the finish line.

Qualifying 12th and coming from the back row, Pallin came out mid-pack, rode super strong and finished an impressive 7th place. In Pro Lite #1, Jake Scott had a perfect day of racing. In round one of qualifying Scott had his work cut out for him, coming off 5th in the first corner. But with patience and fast lines, Scott made his way into first. Off of the start of the final, Pallin came out first, snagging another Holeshot Award. In the first corner of the 18-lap final Pallin sat in the 4th place spot and was able to maintain that position the entire race. After a solid weekend of racing, Pallin currently sits in the 8th place position in the Pro Open points Championship. In the Pro Lite class, Jake Scott took first in both of his qualifying rounds and in his Pro Lite #2 Final, Scott took an early lead and continued to pull away from the rest of the pack, grabbing another win and sweeping the Fargo National. Scott has now won the last 4 Pro Lite National finals in a row (and 7 of the last 8). Scott is currently sitting in 1st place for the Pro Lite points Championship.

One of Pallin’s strongest points over the weekend where his holeshots, he took the Studboy Holeshot Award in both Pro Open finals. In the Friday night final, Pallin came off the line first and came through the first corner in third. Pallin continued to charge, was passed by a couple other riders but still maintained to finish the Friday night final in an impressive 6th place. In the Pro Open Round 12 final on Saturday night, Pallin again ripped the hole shot, kept in the first place position for a handful of laps and when it came to lap 19 of the 24 lap final, Pallin was passed from 3rd place to 4th and just as Pallin regained the 3 place position, he had an unfortunate off but was able to get back up quickly and end in 9th place. Pallin currently sits in 9th in the Pro Open points race.

Jake Scott continued to push the limits in the Pro Lite class throughout the two-day national. On Friday, Scott did have to run the LCQ in order to make it into the Pro Lite #1 Final but coming from the back row did not discourage Scott. Off of the start in the final, Scott was able to charge through the pack and make it into the 2nd position by the first corner. In the 2nd lap of the 16-lap final, Scott passed for the first place position where he stayed and pulled away from the pack, with an impressive 6.5 second over the rest. On Saturday, Scott had another day of great qualifying, and was able to make it into the Pro Lite #2 Final in the 9th position. Coming off of the line in the final, Scott ripped the holeshot, road smart and strong for the 16-lap final and took home another 1st place win. Sweeping the New York National and maintaining 1st place in the Pro Lite points race.

Longville, MN (February 22, 2013) - Team LaVallee’s Pro Rider, Levi LaVallee has confirmed that he will be sitting out for the rest of the 2012/2013 race season. LaVallee was injured this past January at the Winter X Games in Aspen, Colorado. After winning back-to-back Golds in Freestyle and Speed and Style, LaVallee went to X Games Medical to get his left arm/shoulder area looked at. Under doctors orders, LaVallee was to sit out for the rest of the 2013 X Games. Once back at home in Minnesota, LaVallee had extended view MRIs of his left shoulder / lat muscle area. The MRIs determined LaVallee’s left lat muscle was 50% torn. The doctor had told LaVallee to rest, not race and to check back again in 6 weeks for a follow up.

Early this week LaVallee discovered a large muscle bulging from his back, in the same area where his lat muscle was torn. His doctors at DISC Sports & Spine Center in Marina del Ray, California suggested LaVallee to come to their office for a follow up MRI and evaluation. Those new tests have shown LaVallee’s lat muscle had completely torn and he is now scheduled to have surgery early next week to repair. The doctors believe LaVallee will be fully recovered in 6 months.

Longville, MN (February 12, 2013) - A new stop on the ISOC - ACSS National Series brought us to the Turtle Creek Casino and Hotel in Traverse City, Michigan. A perfect location with a large amount of snow, allowing for an awesome track for the racers, great viewing for the fans and on top of that, breathtaking fireworks were on display throughout the two-day National. Coming in to the weekend, Team LaVallee’s pro rider, Levi LaVallee was still not able to compete due to a torn lat muscle. However he was there to support his teammates, sign autographs for the fans and even do a little announcing in the booth on Saturday night.
On day one of the Traverse City National, both Pallin (Pro) and Scott (Pro Lite) where riding a top level. Both riders qualified well and where able to advance to their respective finals without the LCQ (last chance qualifier). In the Pro Open Round 9 final Friday night, Pallin had an awesome hole-shot and was in 3rd place coming into the first corner and stayed there for about 15 of the 20-lap final until landing crooked off of a jump and taking an unfortunate spill. Pallin was still able to finish in the notable 9th place spot. In the Pro Lite #1 final, Scott ripped the holeshot, came out first and stayed there throughout the entire race. Scott rode smooth and consistent putting distance on the second place rider and eventually taking home his 3 consecutive 1st place finish!

On day two of the Traverse City National, both riders where again looking great and with Pallin having the fastest lap times in the second practice, it was sure to be a great day of racing. Both Pallin and Scott where able to avoid the LCQ’s in day two qualifying and both where eager for their finals. In the Pro Open Round 10 final, Pallin ripped the holeshot and came out first. Pallin held his momentum and speed for the first few laps but was not able to hold off a few riders and finished the 20-lap final in an awesome 6th place. In the Pro Lite Final, Scott ripped the holeshot, drifted a little wide in the first turn and another rider was able to get underneath Scott and pushed him off of the track. As Scott continued to work his way up through the pack, he was black-flagged for jumping on a yellow flag ending his chances for finishing in the top 15 in the Pro Lite #2 final. Pallin now sits in 9th place in the Pro Points race and Jake Scott is currently tied for 1st place in Pro Lite.

The Deadwood National kicked off on Friday evening, where both Kyle Pallin and Jake Scott where pumped up and ready to take on the two-day event. In the Pro Class, Kyle Pallin had a great weekend of racing. His highlights were taking 1st place in round one on Friday night and in the Pro Open Round 7 final, Pallin rode strong and sturdy taking home an awesome 6th place in finish. On Saturday Pallin’s qualifying were smooth and consistent and off of the line in the Pro Open Round 8 final, Pallin had an unfortunate off in the first turn, causing him a lap down and ending the race in 14th.

Scott had great hole-shots throughout the weekend and he was able to win each of his qualifying rounds on Friday and Saturday. And when it came down to the finals, Scott did not upset. With smart riding and strong determination, Scott took home 1st place on both Friday and Saturday night, sweeping the Deadwood, SD National. Longville, MN - January 29, 2013 - Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen, Colorado held the 2013 Winter X Games, a venue that has hosted Winter X since 2002. With the return of Snocross, Levi LaVallee had his schedule packed full with competing in all snowmobile events; Freestyle, Speed and Style, Snocross and Best Trick. Fellow Team LaVallee riders, Kyle Pallin and Jake Scott where also able to compete in Winter X, in the Snocross event.

Snowmobile Freestyle kicked off the Winter X Games Thursday evening. The format for this years Freestyle event was a little different than in the past where each rider was only allowed to take on the freestyle course twice and had 75 seconds to hit as many freestyle ramps within the allotted time. LaVallee was able complete 9 jumps total each round and in his final attempt LaVallee nailed his run with huge extensions, perfect landings and throwing a KOD (kiss of death) flip earning a high score of 89 and taking home Gold. Saturdays event was Snowmobile Speed and Style, a combination of Snocross and freestyle where the riders go head-to-head in bracket format. LaVallee worked his way into the final by defeating Justin Hoyer and Willie Elam. In the final run, LaVallee squared off against Cory Davis. LaVallee was able to stay ahead of Davis throughout the entire race and out-scored him in the freestyle portion, earning LaVallee’s second Gold at Winter X 2013.

Immediately after earning his second Gold, LaVallee went straight to X Games Medical to have his left arm/shoulder area looked at. The medical staff diagnosed a torn muscle in his lat, which LaVallee had assumed was from the large extensions from his KOD flips. Medical iced and taped LaVallee’s shoulder and recommend a MRI and further treatment when he returned home.

Sunday, the final day of Winter X Games, held both the Snocross and Snowmobile Best Trick events. LaVallee was scheduled to compete in both, and after going out for the Snocross practice Sunday morning, LaVallee’s torn muscle was restricting him to fully compete the way he wanted. Without wanting to further damage his muscle, LaVallee announced he would not be able to compete in either disciplines on Sunday.

With LaVallee out, Team LaVallee still had two other riders, Kyle Pallin and Jake Scott to represent in Snocross. Scott a Pro Lite rider, was an alternate for Snocross and was able fill an empty spot and compete with the pros. Scott was able to make it into the final, taking a 3rd in his qualifying round. Pallin was riding very strong in the snocross seeding, coming in as the 5th fastest rider. However in his qualifying round, Pallin had an unfortunate off and bad luck in the LCQ which prevented him from making the Snocross final. Off of the line in the Snocross final, Scott found himself mid-pack. With consistent riding and holding his lines, Scott finished his first Snocross final at Winter X Games in an awesome 7th place. Congratulations Jake Scott!

Longville, MN (January 18, 2013) - The ESPN Winter X Games are next on the schedule for Team LaVallee. Held January 24th - 27th, 2013 at beautiful Buttermilk Mountain in Aspen, Colorado which has been the home for Winter X Games since 2002. The Winter X Games are, as described by ESPN (2008), a competition compiled of the greatest winter action sport athletes from around the world competing on an annual basis.

For the 2013 Winter X Games, Team LaVallee was very happy to see the return of Snocross and Snowmobile Speed & Style. Those two events will join, Snowmobile Freestyle and Snowmobile Best Trick. LaVallee, who has not competed in X Games since 2010 because of injuries is excited to be back. (*In 2010, LaVallee took a Gold Medal in Snowmobile Knock Out and a Bronze in Snowmobile Best Trick). X Games has invited LaVallee back to all four snowmobile disciplines, where he is the only snowmobile athlete to compete in all four. Team LaVallee’s snocross riders, Kyle Pallin (Pro) and Jake Scott (Pro Lite) have also been invited to compete in Snocross. Pallin took 4th in Snocross at the 2011 Winter X Games as a Pro Lite rider and Jake Scott will be an alternate for this years snocross event. Be sure to catch the LIVE broadcast and cheer on Team LaVallee.

With a combination of huge crowds and a fun track, this is a favorite stop for Pro Rider, Levi LaVallee. LaVallee was a crowd pleaser throughout the 2-day National. Kicking both nights off with his high-flying backflip introductions and along with his backflips, LaVallee was able to sneak in a couple extra freestyle tricks over the finish line to pump up the crowd. With determination and the never-give-up attitude, LaVallee made it into both Pro Open finals throughout the weekend and finished a solid 10th and 9th place. Pallin had one of his strongest weekends so far this season, with great holeshots off of the line and holding a steady pace throughout the finals, Pallin finished high on the roster with a 6th place Friday night and a 5th Saturday night. Really impressive results for Pallin.
In the Pro Lite Class, Jake Scott was again on top of his game. Scott took three 1st place finished in his qualifying rounds throughout the weekend and when it came down to the finals, he did not upset. In the Pro Lite final Friday night, Scott come off the line in 2nd place and when he went for the pass to be in first, Scott had an unfortunate off and went back to 6th place. But that crash did not damper Scott, he continued to pick off riders one-by-one and was still able to snag a podium finish with a 3rd place! And rounding out the weekend, Scott continued to ride smooth and consistent and finished an awesome, 4th on Saturday night.

Everyone loves a list, whether it's People magazine's most beautiful celebrities of 2012 or Santa's running index of the naughty and nice. This gallery highlights who we believe are currently the 50 most influential figures in action sports. Through talent, tenacity and technology, they have contributed the kinds of innovations to the shared shred space that make a statement about their place in our world.

Our very own, Levi LaVallee made this list at number 19 of 50. It’s a huge honor to be chosen and we couldn’t agree more! Levi was amongst the names of legendary athletes (Shaun White, Travis Pastrana, Tony Hawk, Kelly Slater, etc.), businessman (Jack Dorsey - founder of Twitter, Nick Woodman - founder of GoPro, Jake Burton - founder of Burton Snowboards, etc.), and many, many others. Levi was the only snowmobiler on the list.

Longville, MN (November 27, 2012) - This past weekend marked the 21st annual Duluth National Snocross race, a holiday tradition for thousands of racers, families and fans. Man-made snow was generated to make this weekend a successful one. The 3-day race weekend kicked off on Friday evening with the Amsoil Dominator, followed by race round 1 and 2 of the ISOC National Snocross Series.

Levi LaVallee (Pro) started off the weekend strong while working his way into the semi-finals Friday night in the Amsoil Dominator (a one-off, head-to-head bracket-style event). In the first round, LaVallee was matched against his own teammate, Kyle Pallin (Pro). LaVallee won round one and made it through to the semi-finals by beating last years defending ISOC champion, Tim Tremblay. And in the semi-final around, it was LaVallee vs. Hibbert. Hibbert came off the line first, and after a great battle, LaVallee had an unfortunate off which eliminated him from moving on to the finals. Saturday and Sunday were race round 1 and 2 of the ISOC National Snocross Series. LaVallee and Pallin had some great qualifying throughout the weekend, but were not able to pull off the results they wanted in the Pro Open Finals. However, with LaVallee still wanting to put on a show for the fans, he once again did his infamous “back-flip” intro’s to kick of the races throughout the weekend.

As for Team LaVallee’s Pro Lite Rider, Jake Scott - let’s rewind to the Lake Geneva Finale last season. Scott ended the season strong - winning his first national Pro Lite race, which secured 3rd place overall in the 2011/2012 Pro Lite points battle. And for this years first national, Scott started things off on the right foot. With over 50 Pro Lite athletes competing over the weekend, the chances of making the final were slim. With a combination of great holeshots, smooth lines and smart passing opportunities Scott was able to make his way to the 2nd place podium spot, Saturday night. A great moment for Scott and Team LaVallee at the ISOC season opener.

X Games nixes Snowboard X, Skier X

Two of the longest-running competitions in X Games history, winter's Snowboarder X and Skier X, will not be part of the show when the X Games return to Aspen in January 2013, event organizers confirmed Thursday. ESPN decided to cut the events, as well as Mono Skier X, and will not build the X Course for the first time in history.

Snowboarder X was one of three events that had taken place every year since the Winter X Games debuted in 1997, along with Snowboard Superpipe and Slopestyle. Skier X had been staged 15 of those 16 years, starting in 1998. Mono Skier X was added to the docket five years ago.

"These decisions are never easy, obviously," said Tim Reed, senior director of content strategy for ESPN X Games. "We understand the ramifications these things bring. We come up with what we believe are the best events to showcase to our fans on-site and obviously the networks, too.

"There wasn't one single factor that led to this decision. It just comes down to filling the schedule with how much we believe we need to make the event enjoyable to the fans and deliver on what we need from a product standpoint."

Meanwhile, two events that were dropped last year, Snowmobile SnoCross and Speed and Style, are returning to the 2013 Aspen schedule. SnoCross had been featured for 14 straight years before it was omitted from X Games Aspen 2012.

Six-time and defending SnoCross champion Tucker Hibbert knows the sentiment all too well.

"I'm bummed for boardercross and skiercross; I know how those guys feel," he said. "We're kind of at the organizers' mercy in terms of whether we're in or out, but I'm thankful that SnoCross is back in and I'm going to do my best to make sure we're in for years to come."

The turn of events hit the ski and snowboard communities hard this week, with a handful of athletes finding out Tuesday.

"It's a devastating blow to our sport and skiercross, too, because X Games has been our Super Bowl for years," said Nate Holland, who has won six of the past seven gold medals in Snowboarder X.

Holland said he appreciated the opportunity to work with ESPN in the past, but he's expecting to take a financial hit with the loss of the sport's most prestigious annual event.

"I have sponsors that put a value on X Games and the exposure I get there," he said. "Basically, my stock went down as soon as that news came out."

"No Skier X comes as a surprise to me since X Games put it on the map and (helped foster) the progress it's made to the Olympic level," Daron Rahlves, the 2008 Skier X gold medalist and promoter of the Rahlves Banzai Tour, said in an e-mail from Chile. "Skicross athletes look forward to the X Games for the best track of the year and the big stage to compete on."

"It's definitely perplexing," 2011 Mono Skier X gold medalist Josh Dueck said. "It's not the only mono skiercross race, but in my eyes it is because it does it on a level no other event matches. There's no better exposure we can get for our sport. And right now we're young and growing exponentially. This is a huge, huge hit to the evolution we're seeing. It's hard to digest."

Reed didn't dismiss the possibility of the disciplines being added to future X Games events.

"There's nothing to say we won't do X course next year," he said. "We believe in the sport, we love it, we've been doing it for a lot of years. Ultimately we just made the decision that we're going to focus on pipe, slope, big air, a full complement of snowmobiles and snowboard street."

Holland, for one, hopes his sport's fate mirrors that of SnoCross.

"I know it's a business decision," he said. "I remain optimistic that they'll repeal this decision in the years to come. I'm open to any suggestions. I don't want this to be the end. And I don't think it's over for us."

In round one of qualifying LePage took a 2nd and in round two, LePage came out swinging and won his heat race. Coming into the final race of the season, LePage was the 2nd qualifier. Off of the line and up the hill of the Pro Open final, LePage got tangled up with another rider in the first corner, which ultimately caused him to be towards the back of the pack, but still managed to finish a notable 13th place.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 214px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiDGmjuizkK_9tfJk17G7LHDB7UtWhmkPxgVHN6-PbRM3WZmnlir_WTXhLCAkGKZCwK7DClgiDei2v6litR9TuM6BJh9tFQSVOQcAwJQhFezNIbPvKu0Ois9mOSImh29ZMOmNNuu5me1c8/s320/WDP_7063%25C2%25A9waynedavis2012.jpg" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5722056054382968242" />

Jake Scott (Pro Lite) coming off of his 2nd place finish at ERX the previous weekend, Scott was hoping for a first place finish. In Saturday’s Pro Lite #1 Final, Scott was sitting in 4th place throughout the entire final, and with one lap to go, the race was red flagged due to a rider down. The race was re-started with one lap to go, and Scott ended up with a 5th place finish. On Sunday’s Pro Lite #2 Final, Scott was 2nd off the line and held that position throughout most of the race, until the leader went off of the track and Scott slid right in to the 1st place spot. With unseasonably warm weather and temperatures reaching into the 60’s, the two-day National had record breaking crowds and with snow being preserved throughout the winter, it was one of the biggest tracks we have seen all season.

Bobby LePage (Pro) started off the two-day event with great qualifying. LePage qualified 10th for the Pro Open final Friday night and coming off of the start of the final - LePage was looking awesome. A couple laps in into the 14 lap final LePage came to a dead stop on the track, finding a blown shock which ultimately ended the race for LePage. For the Saturday night final, LePage was riding strong and sitting mid-pack, coming from the back row. About half-way through the race, LePage had an unfortuate off, causing him to round out the weekend with a 13th place finish.

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 213px; height: 320px;" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWxjH8umzSROgnhuJ6b1y2twozPAlF1dlHtuCK9bT6IqAGF9KKGCD9stM8MJj30qLSgo_6QxfjJGlZ8rNYSm2yPj6Hw9PDVANwmmQnXogHVFUzfctyebSVOcchCPRDfdfFF2QxJoKOB8A/s320/wdp_2412_%25C2%25A9waynedavis2012_web.JPG" border="0" alt=""id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5719193871189917874" />

Jake Scott (Pro Lite) coming off of two podium finishes at the Fargo National the previous weekend, Scott took that same momentum into the ERX National and was able to make it back onto the podium. In the final on Friday night, Scott had a great start, coming off of the line in 4th place out of the 15 rider final. With steady momentum and consistent lines, Scott ended up passing two other riders and finished the Friday night final with an outsanding 2nd place. Rounding out the weekend in the Saturday night final, Scott came off of the line a little late which caused him to be in the back of the pack. With those extra weeks, the Amsoil Championship SnoCross Series was able to make enough snow for a competitive snocross track. Team LaVallee was eager to get back on the road, with only 4 races left of the 2011-2012 season, the team was ready to put on a show.

Bobby LePage (Pro) had an awesome weekend of racing. It all started Friday night of the two-night event, LePage finished 3rd and 2nd in his qualifying rounds, which allowed him to go straight to the final. Off of the starting line for the Pro Final, LePage ripped a great hole-shot and came around the first corner towards the front of the pack. With smooth, consistent riding LePage held great lap times during the 28-lap final and finished an exciting 4th place. Saturday night, LePage had an unfortunate off in a qualifying round but he was still able to make it into the final, by taking 2nd in the LCQ (last change qualifier). Coming from the back row, LePage rode strong and took home a notable 11th place finish Saturday night.

Jake Scott (Pro Lite) was on the same path as LePage, Scott also rode strong throughout the two-day event. Scott made it into the final on both Friday and Saturday night. But where Scott really stood out was on Friday night, qualifying 5th in round one and taking a 1st in round two, Scott went straight into the Pro Lite Final. With an awesome start, Scott rode smart and held his moment throughout the final and finished an awesome 4th place. On Saturday, Scott made his way into the Final through the LCQ and rounded out the weekend with a 10th place.

“This was one of the best race weekends Team LaVallee has had this season, both Bobby and Jake were one position away from taking a podium finish Friday night. It was great to see that hunger, we are looking forward to these last 3 races, and hoping to end the 2011-2012 season on a high note.” states Glenn Kafka (co-owner to Team LaVallee).

Race Results:
Pro Open Round 8 (LePage)
Round 1: 3th Round 2: 2nd LCQ: --- Final: 4th
Pro Open Round 9 (LePage)
Round 1: 6th Round 2: 2nd LCQ: 2nd Final: 11th

Pro Lite #1 (Scott)
Round 1: 5th Round 2: 1st LCQ: --- Final: 4th
Pro Lite #2 (Scott)
Round 1: 5th Round 2: 5th LCQ: 3rd Final: 10th

Coming Up:
March 2-3, 2012 - Fargo National: Buffalo River Race Park, Glyndon, Minnesota
March 9-10, 2012 - ERX National: ERX Elk River Extreme Motorpark, Elk River, Minnesota
March 18-19, 2012 - Nielsen Enterprises Grand Finale, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin
For ticketing and information, visit http://www.isocracing.com/launchinlevihttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00063551762828042763noreply@blogger.com0
